9th Newsmakers Achievers' Award - The 9th edition of Newsmakers

The 9th edition of Newsmakers Achievers’ Award held on May 1, 2018, at the Rangaswar Auditorium, Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, Mumbai was dedicated to help the ‘Divyangs’ (handicap persons) and the education of sex workers’ daughters. The award event is held to recognise the efforts of common men who have made a difference to the society through their hard work and determination. There is a low representation of disabled people in both the government and politics. Even teachers are not trained to assist disabled students. There have been several instances where disabled candidates have been denied jobs by employers.Sex workers have to face discrimination, harassment and assault. They are denied access to health care and social security benefits. Sex workers’ children hail from an extremely vulnerable environment. The awards are held to create an awareness of such social issues.
