Veteran Bollywood actor Avtar Kishan Hangal aka AK Hangal has passed away. The veteran actor was admitted to the Asha Parekh Hospital in Santacruz on August 16, after he slipped and fell in his bathroom on August 14, fracturing his right femur (thigh) bone.

Initially, he was examined at home and put on medicines. However, later, he was shifted to the hospital's ICU and put on ventilator support as his condition deteriorated.

Hangal, who had been in and out of hospital with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic kidney disease and hypertension, needed to be operated however the doctors felt he was unfit to go under the knife. On Friday morning, he was even taken off the ventilator as it wasn't helping him.

Yesterday, his son Vijay had told us, "His condition is deteriorating but he is a fighter though there is little chance of his surviving. He suffered a hip fracture but we brought him to the hospital as his condition became serious. He was put on life support but two days later, the ventilator was removed as it wasn't helping him in any way."
