After a stay of many weeks in jail, Sanjay Dutt has finally got some relief in the form of a parole, a provisional release of a prisoner who agrees to certain conditions prior to the completion of the maximum sentence period. However, there are many celebs who have been or are on probation which in legal language is a period of supervision over an offender, ordered by a court instead of serving time in prison. We take a look at the list of celebs who have been granted parole or probation.

O.J. Simpson, a former superstar in the National Football League, recently won parole on some of the charges that have kept him in a Nevada prison for almost five years. He was convicted in December 2008 for kidnapping, robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and other charges. However, he still faces at least four more years behind bars.

Hungarian music star Sarolta Zalatnay was sentenced for three years for fraud in 2004. She served 16 months, and was released on parole in 2006.

Lindsay Lohan has a history of probation violations. In 2007, she was arrested for possessing cocaine, transporting narcotics, and driving under the influence of drugs. She was given three years probation which she violated in 2010. She was recently in the news again when she again violated her probation by leaving a Newport Beach rehab facility where she was to begin 90 days of treatment.

In 1995, actor Hugh Grant was sentenced to two years probation after it was revealed that he attempted to purchase oral sex from a prostitute.
