In 1980s, Vinod Khanna's popularity soared to such great heights that he was compared with Amitabh Bachchan who was ruling the roost at that point of time. Suddenly, Khanna decided to leave everything and become a follower of the spiritual teacher Osho (Rajneesh). He left the film industry in 1982 for five years and moved to Rajneeshpuram, Osho's commune in the United States.
