Sarika started her career when she was four years old. Since her father walked out on the family early on, she was the only bread winner, and was forced to work from a tender age. The actor was in a possessive and abusive relationship with her mother, who forced her to work. The actor did not go to school. Instead, she reported on the sets everyday. At the peak of her career, the actor was abused and thrashed in public by her mother. At 21, unable to take it anymore, Sarika left home in her car and slept in it for six nights! She found a flat, signed more films and resolved to make enough money to buy a place of her own. And the rest, as they say, is history.

The National Award winning Malayalam actress, Meera Jasmine said, "I have been robbed of my earnings. I have no father, mother and sisters," and filed a police complaint against her parents and sisters in 2004, alleging that they had usurped her property and cheated her. The actor, in her complaint said that her money and property were wrongfully diverted by her father without her knowledge, to purchase a flat for one of her sisters’ in Kochi and a hospital for another in Kozhikode.However, in 2006, the actor reconciled with her family. According to her sister, actor Jenny Jasmine, Meera is back and living together again.
