Director's actor, writer's muse and poet's inspiration, Rekha has proved, time and again, that she is the true diva of Bollywood. She made news for her movies, fitness choices, performances, and even her rumoured relationships. She is one of the most enigmatic stars of Bollywood. Her charisma symbolised the picture of beauty and innocence. Rekha's strenuous makeover regime is reflected in her personal and professional sphere.
Rekha Ganesan, born on October 10, 1954, to South Indian actors Gemini Ganesan and Pushpavalli. Her parents never married. Rekha has a younger sister named Radha. The actress had an unstable childhood—her relationship with her father, Gemini, was poor. Rekha would often stay with her grandmother due to her mother's hectic acting schedule at the time.
One-year-old Rekha played a small role in the Telugu-language drama 'Inti Guttu' (1958), which became a commercial success. She also played a brief role in 'Rangula Ratnam' (1966). The actress did her schooling at Presentation Convent School in Madras during her adolescence. Rekha used to spend her time at the school's chapel.
Rekha never wanted to be an actress, but due to her family's financial condition, her mother Pushpavalli asked her to pursue a career in acting. At the age of 13 to 14—while she was in ninth grade—Rekha dropped out of school to start a full-time career in acting. As a protective sister, she did not let her younger sister Radha join her in the same line of the profession because she wanted Radha to finish her education first.
Rekha made her debut in the Kannada movie 'Operation Jackpot Nalli C.I.D 999' (1969), followed by her debut in the Telugu movie 'Ammakosam' (1970). She made her Bollywood debut in 'Sawan Bhadon' (1970) alongside Navin Nischol.
