Former Indian Test cricketer Salil Ankola was booked by city police for negligent driving on Sunday night. Ankola was at wheels inside Honda City when it met with an accident, said police.

As per reports, Ankola had parked his car on Lucknow-Kanpur Road near Nadarganj crossing. The car's engine was running and Ankola was talking to somebody over the phone when accidentally he pressed the accelerator, the reports say.

Before he could apply the brakes, his car rammed into several tempos and auto rickshaws parked on the roadside. At least four passenger vehicles got damaged in the accident. The group of drivers immediately apprehended Ankola after the incident.

Nonetheless, LDA colony resident Mohammad Afroz whose tempo got damaged approached Sarojininagar police. Circle officer of the area, Harendra Pratap, confirmed that a case had been registered against Ankola. "The cricketer had been booked under IPC charges 337 (causing hurt), 279 (negligent driving) and 427 (causing damage)," added Pratap. However, before the situation could have snowballed, Ankola, as per police, agreed to compensate the drivers and was allowed to go.
