Social worker Jayakumar Hiremath alleged that the April 14, 2013 cover page of a fortnightly business magazine depicted Dhoni as Lord Vishnu, holding several products which he endorses, including a shoe. This has hurt the feelings of Hindus. The cover page bore the headline 'God of Big Deals'.

The complainant stated that he bought a copy of the magazine on April 16 from a book stall in Annapoorneshwari Nagar, in Jnanabharathi police station limits, and was shocked to see the photograph of Dhoni on the cover page, one of the four hands on the right side holding a shoe, apart from a nutritional drink, hair oil, soft drink, engine oil and other things.

Apart from Dhoni, the complainant sought action against three editors, the printer and publisher and the chief visualizer of the magazine. The complainant also sought suitable compensation.

"Sixth additional chief metropolitan magistrate Choori Khan heard our complaint and ordered that a case be registered against Dhoni and five others representing the magazine. The case has been posted for June 12 to record the complainant's statement," Dharmapal, advocate for the complainant, told TOI.
