Hundreds of avian enthusiasts compete in Goa bird race

The 3rd Goa Bird Race was an exciting one, where a total of seven teams participated, and spotted bird species from dawn to dusk. Goa is among the few states which have recorded a total of around 486 birds both from the residential and migratory species. However, this year participants saw fewer birds. Although teams spotted over 200 out of 486 total species found in Goa, there has been a decrease in the overall number of birds. A reason for this decrease in case of wetlands is the non-usage of water for irrigation purposes, as a result, the water level of the lake remains high all-round the year. Birds need shallow waters for feeding on vegetation in the lake.
