Although not mentioned officially, the DTEK50 is said to be the rebranded Alcatel Idol 4 smartphone sporting a strikingly similar hardware design. Also, the specifications of the BlackBerry DTEK50 are similar to that of the Idol 4. The DTEK50 additionally features BlackBerry's own set of security software.

BlackBerry claims that the DTEK50 is its slimmest smartphone yet at 7.4mm thickness. Also, the firm has this time completely let go of its physical Qwerty keypad. The smartphone can be pre-ordered at $299 from the company's own shopping website in US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands. Its availability and price details in India are not yet known.

Running android 6.0 Marshmallow, the BlackBerry DTEK50 features a 5.2-inch full-HD resolution, scratch-resistant display and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, clubbed with 3GB RAM. The smartphone houses 16GB of inbuilt storage, which can be further expanded via a microSD card (up to 2TB).
