It was after a long wait of 24 years that Shimla celebrated White Christmas with season's first snowfall on Sunday morning. Though deposits melted soon after that, tourists enjoyed a brief spell of snowfall at Shimla, Kufri, Fagu, Narkanda and other adjoining spots.

Snowfall was unexpected as dry weather conditions were predicted till December 31. The hill town had received snowfall from December 22 to 24 in 1989, from December 21 to 22 in 1995 and on December 23 in 2013.
