Kamala Harris' ancestral village celebrates as she takes oath

Residents of a tiny village in Tamil Nadu celebrated the inauguration of Kamala Harris as US Vice President. They offered prayers at the local temple, distributed sweets and bursted crackers. The entire Thulasendrapuram village was abuzz with the chants of "Long Live Kamala Harris". Just before the inauguration ceremony, women donned in bright saris and men wearing white dhoti pants sit in front of TVs to watch it. Earlier, the villages adorned their temple with flowers, offering special prayers for Harris' success. Her maternal grandfather was born in the village of Thulasendrapuram, about 350 kilometers (215 miles) from the southern coastal city of Chennai.
