Kochi: Footwear showroom gutted in fire

A massive fire gutted a showroom-cum-godown of a footwear company in Kochi, Kerala. Fortunately, no casualities have been reproted. Several fire tender vehicles rushed to the spot and extinguished the flames. The fire at the Paragon Footwear building was first reported at 9.30 am, a fire official said. The showroom is located close to the Ernakulam South railway station. As a precaution measure, the services at the Kochi Metro station was suspended until the situation came under control. Local MLA Hibi Eden said the authorities did their best to control the blaze. “We’re concerned about the safety of the building, which has chances of collapsing,” said Eden. A company official told IANS that all the employees had been taken out safely. Preliminary estimates reveal a loss of over Rs 4 crore, he added.
