Mid-day meal workers end protest after government's assurance

Thousands of mid-day meals workers, who had come from different parts of Karnataka, called off their agitation after the Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar gave assurance about addressing their grievances. The mid-day meal workers were pre-empted from staging protest at the Freedom Park. Some of them were detained by the police at the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station. Education Minister S Suresh fixed a meeting on February 13 to discuss the problems of workers. The protesters have over 12 demands including fixing of monthly minimum wages, adding mid-day meal workers into the school payroll and timely release of salaries within the fifth day of the month.
