Parliament adjourned to mark Karunanidhi's demise
1/7
Both the houses of the Indian Parliament were adjourned for the day to pay a tribute to late leader DMK President M Karunanidhi, who passed away after a prolonged illness on August 07, 2018. Describing the contribution of Karunanidhi, Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan said he was a visionary and a leader of the masses, who propagated his political philosophy through screen writing and produced some of the best hits in Tamil cinema. She adjourned the Lok Sabha proceedings after observing a moment of silence with fellow MPs in his memory. In Rajya Sabha, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu read out an obituary reference and said that he had a multi-faceted personality and a gritty figure, who overcame difficulties. Naidu also said that the country has lost an eminent litterateur, an able administrator, a dedicated social worker and an outstanding statesman. Karunanidhi was a Dravidian icon, who struggled through out his life for the upliftment of Tamil community.
