Moving sprightly on foot through
five dusty villages in Amravati district, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi
on Thursday visited nine houses where bread-earners ended their lives, unable
to cope up with severe agrarian crisis. Rahul's padyatra went on for six hours,
even as the area was scorching at 43 degrees Celsius.

Towards the end of his itinerary,
Rahul addressed the press for about three and half minutes. "I have come
to Vidarbha earlier, too. But I have never seen a situation like this. The
farmers feel that they have been abandoned. They want total waiver of crop
loans, higher MSP (minimum support price) for crops," he said and accused
the state government and the Narendra Modi government at Centre of ignoring
farmers and the working class.
