Canadian PM Justin Trudeau mocks his visit to India

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau criticised Canadian media for its negative coverage of his India visit, which he made in February 2018. He said media didn’t highlight the bilateral agreements and investment promises made by Indian companies. He referred to his meeting with Infosys’ Chief Executive Officer Salil Parekh and the company’s announcement of investment in Canada. Trudeau had visited India with his family on five-day-tour, which was marred by controversies. He joked about his visit while talking about various aspects of the tour in front of a packed audience. "That’s it, in terms of this year. Nothing else happened. Nothing at all. We didn’t go to India," Trudeau said. "I don’t remember the India trip. I think to myself we should really go to India sometime, the same way I say to myself we should have a Highlander 2 sometime, because that was such a great movie,” he added. When Trudeau landed in India, he was received by Minister of Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh at the airport in New Delhi. Canadian media raised the issue why he was not received by his Indian counterpart or senior high-profile minister. While then US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister were received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Another controversy hit Trudeau’s visit when media reports emerged that a convicted Khalistani terrorist Jaspal Atwal attended the official dinner reception in New Delhi and was photographed with his wife.
