The Covid-19 pandemic has caused severe damage across the globe since 2020. From people succumbing to the deadly virus to financial markets taking a hit, the world is in utter chaos. Animals have faced the brunt in the past due to human error. Several species have become endangered, and some have also gone extinct due to illegal hunting practices and depleting forests. Taking into account the growing need to protect endangered species across the world, May 21 was marked the Endangered Species Day. This noble initiative was introduced in 2006. Various strict steps are being taken to keep these endangered species safe. The National Endangered Species Act emphasizes on preserving the natural habitat of the animals. There are many categories of species that are facing the threat of extinction; while some are critically endangered and others have already been extinct. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has reported that around 37,400 species are under the “threatened with extinction” category. On Endangered Species Day, let's take a look at some of the endangered species in the world.
