Indigenous people continued their protest in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, demanding better protection for their land and rights. The members of tribal communities and human rights organisations can be seen chanting and holding signs criticising the far-right President Jair Bolsonaro. They accuse Bolsonaro and his government of not controlling the illegal mining and deforestation of Indigenous reserves. Earlier, Bolsonaro had said Indigenous people have too much land, holding up the development of the country, and pledged not to recognise an inch more of reservation lands. Tribal groups have been receiving huge support from Opposition leaders since they erected the protest camp in Brasilia. Recently, former leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited the camp and promised Brazil's indigenous people that he would stop illegal mining on their reservations and recognise their land claims if he wins the presidential election in October. According to reports, several thousands of members of 200 tribes have gathered to oppose plans by President Jair Bolsonaro to allow commercial agriculture, mining and oil exploration on their lands.
