Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the latest victim of the Twitter hack that had occured in July which involved several big names. Twitter confirmed that the account of Modi's personal website and mobile app was hacked on the morning of September 3. As per reports, PM Modi's account, which has more than 2.5 million followers, sent out tweets asking netizens to donate to the PM National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency. Twitter said that it is actively investigating the issue and has already taken the necessary action to secure the compromised account. "We're aware of this activity and have taken steps to secure the compromised account. We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted," a Twitter spokesperson said. A similar massive hack occurred in July this year, wherein Twitter accounts of prominent personalities sent out tweets asking for donations in the form of cryptocurrency.

The following tweet was seen on most of the hacked accounts —"Giving back to my community! All Bitcoin sent to my address below will be doubled. if you send $1000, I will send back $2000. Only doing this for the next thirty minutes. Enjoy!"

The tweet also had a functioning Bitcoin address for Twitteratis to send money. However, Twitter support was quick to react on the issue. They said, "We detected what we believe to be a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools." According to reports, a Twitter employee was paid by hackers to use the internal tool.
