Washington receives heavy snowfall as winter storm sweeps the US capital; see pics

The Southeast and mid-Atlantic regions of the United States of America were wrapped in a snowy blanket after a winter storm unleashed heavy snowfall, cancelling hundreds of flights and knocking out power for thousands. The National Weather Service said Washington DC, eastern Tennessee, Virginia and Maryland were hit by 9 inches, 14.6 inches and 15.5 inches of snowfall respectively. "This is not a very typical setup for us, especially this time of year for us. When we are talking highly populated areas, increasing accumulation of snow becomes problematic," said Austin Mansfield, a weather service meteorologist in Virginia." The authorities ordered the closure of schools and other educational institutions. Hundreds of car and truck drivers remained stuck on highways due to snowfall. Even President Joe Biden's flight was delayed as he arrived back in Washington. He and his staff had to wait at Air Force One airport for 30 minutes as plows cleared the runway. However, many people including children and dogs were seen playing and enjoying the snow. They grabbed the opportunity and throw snowballs at each other.
