Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu is knocked out of the Japan Open held in Tokyo from July 23 to July 28, 2019. After battling for nearly 61 minutes in a match against Japanese shuttler Aya Ohori in the women's singles 2nd round of Japan Open, Sindhu lost to her Indonesia Open rival Akane Yamaguchi 21-18, 21-15 in the quarterfinals. Sindhu tried to reduce the score gap in the first round of the match to 18-20, but she couldn't battle her opponent for too long. This was not the first time Sindhu lost to Yamaguchi, before Japan Open, Sindhu had finished runner-up at Indonesia Open and had lost to the Japanese player in the finals. Meanwhile, in the Men's singles match, World No. 23 B Sai Praneeth has showcased an impressive performance in Tokyo with a straight-game win and has managed to qualify into the semifinals. Men's doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda 21-19, 21-18 after a 41-minute battle. (Photos: Instagram)
