According to the right-hander, it's more about understanding one's own game and working on the shot selection. "If a player understands his game properly, he will know what shots he can play. If that's sorted out, South Africa can be one of the best places to bat."

Rohit has been part of an all-conquering Indian team and the obvious query was why things didn't go as per plan. "I believe it's the lack of big partnerships that is letting the team down. Over the last one year, we kept having such partnerships. Our goal now is to have those odd 100-run and a couple of 50-run partnerships. I am sure the batsmen will step up and take responsibility," he said.

Coach Duncan Fletcher has a dismal record when it comes to India playing away series. He was the coach when Dhoni's boys suffered those two whitewashes in England and Australia in 2011-12, but Rohit said that Fletcher is doing his best to get the house in order.
