Shikhar Dhawan had his reputation to salvage after a poor tour of England. And just like he established himself in India's top order in the series against Australia last year, Dhawan continued his assured revival with 91 (79b, 8x4, 1x6) as India emerged six-wicket victors in the third match at Hyderabad, thereby taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Dhawan's innings trumped Mahela Jayawardene's effort earlier in the day, whose 124-ball 118 had rescued Sri Lanka to put up 242 after electing to bat, but an asking rate of under five runs an over was not going to trouble the Indian batsmen on a placid Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium wicket.

Victory, however, was set up by India's pace-spin duo of Umesh Yadav and Akshar Patel, who shared seven wickets between them to extinguish any chances of Sri Lanka putting up a competitive score.

And despite the return of Nuwan Kulasekara, Sri Lanka's bowlers couldn't produce enough wicket-taking deliveries to trouble the Indian batsmen, with one of the fourwickets to fall (Ambati Rayudu) resulting from a terrible mix-up.

After Ajinkya Rahane (31, 47b, 5x4) and Dhawan put on a 62-run opening stand, last-match centurion Rayudu (35, 46b, 3x4) added another 59 with the left-hander, before stand-in captain Virat Kohli (53, 61b, 4x4, 1x6) and Suresh Raina (18*, 23b, 1x6) hastened India's march to their sixth consecutive win in 50-over contests.
