Prithvi Shaw suspended by BCCI for doping violation

Prithvi Shaw suspended by BCCI for doping violation
1/20
Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw, who is the second-youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to make a Test century, is facing a ban from all forms of cricket for eight months. The 19-year-old cricketer tested positive for the drug 'terbutaline' during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. The official statement released by BCCI said, "Shaw had inadvertently ingested a prohibited substance, which can be commonly found in cough syrups. Terbutaline, a specified substance, is prohibited both in and out of competition in the WADA Prohibited List of Substances. Prithvi Shaw registered with Mumbai Cricket Association, has been suspended for doping violation. Shaw responded to the charge by admitting the ADRV but asserting that it was inadvertent, being caused by his ingestion of the over the counter cough syrup he had taken for his cough." Shaw had provided a urine sample as a part of BCCI's anti-doping test programme, but his sample was found to contain Terbutaline. As per reports, Shaw is undergoing treatment for his hip injury at the National Cricket Academy but BCCI has said that the young batsman was pulled out of the Mumbai Premier League after he failed the doping test.
