Ravi Shastri remained a favourite for the position of head coach despite having several contenders like Tom Moody, Mahela Jayawardene and Robin Singh. Before Virat Kohli left with his team for the West-Indies tour, he commented on Ravi Shastri continuing as the coach of the team. Virat said, "The CAC hasn't contacted me yet. If they want my opinion, I'll go and speak to them. With Ravi Bhai, we share a great camaraderie, and will definitely be very happy if he continues. But I haven't been contacted so far." A BCCI official said, "Nothing permanent with a long-term effect should happen at this stage of transition. Shastri and Kohli complement each other well and it would be unfair to change half of a team that has been successful." Before becoming the head coach, Shastri was India team director from August 2014 to April 2016. He succeeded former spinner, Anil Kumble, as Kumble stepped down after a year in charge stating that he did not get along well with Virat Kohli. Shastri will be with the team during the entire West Indies tour. (Photos: Instagram)
