The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind presented the National Sports Awards 2021. While the prestigious ceremony is usually held on the occasion of the National Sports Day on August 29, this year owing to the Olympics and Paralympic Games, they were presented on November 13. While 12 sportspersons were honoured with Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, 35 athletes were conferred with the Arjuna Award this year. Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan was the only player from the sport to win the award. India's top-ranked women's tennis player Ankita Raina also received the prestigious Arjuna Award. Arjuna Award is given to a sportsperson for good performance over a period of the previous four years and showing qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and discipline.
