Aditi Ashok's dream run at this year's Olympics ended with the golfer finishing on the fourth spot. But her performance was extremely significant. Ashok may have missed out on a medal but came close to winning one like no Indian ever did. An international event, where golfing may have slipped from our minds, the 21-year-old got stalwarts of the sport talking about her. She helped shift the focus of the nation and put women's golf on the map.

Often touted as the 'World's Sexiest Athlete,' fans eagerly anticipated watching her perform in the mixed 4x400m relay representing Germany. However, she had to return home from the Games ahead of her event after not being selected to compete. The track star was sure disappointed but fans encouraged her for her upcoming athletic career.

Bhavani Devi is another name from India who made the country proud without an Olympic medal. How? Well, she is the country's first fencer to qualify for the Olympics. Besides, she also defeated Tunisia's Nadia Azizi which made her the first Indian to win a fencing match at the Games.
