The 2022 Winter Olympics may have already kicked off the competition, but the opening ceremony was held today on February 4, to mark the ceremonial start of the Winter Games in a spectacular event. According to reports, almost 3,000 athletes from 90 countries are taking part in this year's event. Skier Arif Khan is India's only athlete to participate in the Games. The 2022 Olympics is historic for Beijing as it becomes the first city to ever host both the Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics. The Chinese capital hosted the Olympics back in 2008 and that year, the Games were highlighted by one of the most mesmerising opening ceremonies in recent memory. Through music, song, dance and firework, the 2022 Winter Olympics finally kick-started. However, the event was nothing short of controversies. India's top diplomats in Beijing reported that they won't attend the 2022 Winter Olympics ceremony after reports of a Chinese soldier from the Galwan clashes being chosen as the torchbearer for the Games surfaced. Following the decision, the Indian Public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati announced that it will not be telecasting the live opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.
