Canines conquer the waves at World Dog Surfing Championships

Leave the treats and toys at home, these dogs are totally having a fun time riding waves and make for some pretty cute pictures too. The annual World Dog Surfing Championships was held in Pacifica, California and it featured tons of pooches of all sizes.

The contest is divided into various categories depending on the size of the dogs: small, medium, large and very large dogs. The dogs compete solo, in tandem, or partnering with a human.

Canines were seen in their life vests and catching some waves, all in the name of charity and fun. The pups are placed on their respective surfboard, push them up onto relatively small waves and see how long they can stay on.

In the case of some doggos, they were able to cruise pretty far. According to reports, the scores are decided on the canine's confidence, style and of course, how long they can maintain their balance.
