Chandrayaan-3: ISRO's Vikram lander sends pictures of Moon's far side
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has released the latest pictures of the Moon as its third lunar mission starts descending towards the little-explored south pole.
The space agency released riveting pictures of the moon's far side, the lunar hemisphere that always faces away from the Earth. The images were captured by the Lander Hazard Detection and Avoidance Camera (LHDAC) on the spacecraft.
The pictures shared by ISRO were taken on August 19, a day before Vikram lander entered the pre-landing orbit. About the LHDAC, ISRO explained, "This camera that assists in locating a safe landing area -- without boulders or deep trenches -- during the descent is developed by ISRO at SAC."
According to ISRO, to achieve the mission objectives of Chandrayaan-3, several advanced technologies are present in the Lander such as LHDAC.
