Hartalika Teej 2023: Know significance and puja rituals
The festive season in India calls for religious fervour and celebration across the country. One of the most significant festivals, Hartalika Teej is here, observed by Hindu women, particularly those in the states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and parts of Madhya Pradesh.
There are three Teej observances in a year. Kajari Teej, Hariyali Teej and Hartalika Teej. The third one is observed in the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Bhadrapada month, which according to the Gregorian calendar falls in the months of August or September.
This year, Hartalika Teej is observed on September 18. The tritiya tithi ends at 12:39 PM.
'Haratalika' is composed of the words, 'alika' meaning female acquaintance and 'harat' meaning abduction. According to the legends, Goddess Parvati underwent arduous penance on the banks of the Ganga river in order to wed Lord Shiva.
