Harvest Moon: See pictures of the last Supermoon of 2023
The Harvest Moon delighted sky-watchers around the world as it rose gracefully giving a spectacular visual. The Full Moon was also termed a 'Supermoon,' the final one of four in 2023.
The Harvest Moon is the Full Moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, typically in September for the Northern Hemisphere. Unlike other Full Moons that rise about 50 minutes later each night, the Harvest Moon rises only about 20-30 minutes later as it provides additional light for farmers to work well in the evening.
As summer begins to wane and the days are shortening, the Moon graces the night sky, offering farmers and communities a time to reap the rewards of their labour and celebrate the fruits of the Earth. This is why, the Full Moon during this time is known as Harvest Full Moon.
The Harvest Moon was also a Supermoon, the last of 2023. A Supermoon can appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than other times.
