
India tops the chart of countries with the highest tiger population

With a 2967 tiger population, India has the highest tiger population. India recorded a 23.5% increase in tiger population between 2018 and 2022.

Around 80% of the tigers now reside in eight of the 18 tiger states, including Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Assam. Madhya Pradesh has the highest tiger population of 785, followed by 563 in Karnataka and 444 in Maharashtra.

Russia holds the second-highest position with 540 tigers. Russia has significantly contributed to global tiger conservation.

A joint census conducted by the Russian Government with the support of WWF and the Amur Tiger Center revealed that there are 480 to 540 Siberian Tigers across their existing range in the country.
