Achala Sachdev has worked in more than 250 movies in her career spanning over six decades, including three Punjabi movies, a Gujarati movie, and one uncompleted Bengali movie. The song "Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen" made Sachdev popular in the eyes of the public. The actress is known for mother and grandmother roles in Hindi movies.
Achala Sachdev began her career in Hindi cinema as a child star. But soon, she became famous for essaying roles as a mother and grandmother.
Sachdev worked for All India Radio, Lahore before the partition of India, and then at Delhi All India Radio.
Her most memorable movies are 'Arzoo' (1965), 'Waqt' (1965), 'Mere Naam Joker' (1970), 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' (1971), 'Chandni' (1989), 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' (1995), 'Kabhi Kushi Kabhe Gham' (2001) and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' (2003).
Sachdev made her movie debut with 'Fashionable Wife' (1938), which Dhirubhai Desai directed.
