#GoldenFrames: Manorama, an actress who acts with her eyes

Manorama played many roles throughout her acting career—she was a child artist, lead actress, vamp and character artist, especially comical ones. The actress nearly triumphed for almost six decades.

Manorama was born to an Irish mother and an Indian Christian father in Lahore on August 16, 1926. Her father was a professor at an engineering college. Manorama was christened at birth as Erin Issac.

Manorama's parents were both music enthusiasts. So, it was usual for the actress to get proper training in dance and music.

The actress started performing at a very young age. During such an occasion, Manorama was spotted by filmmaker Roop K. Shorey. It wasn't easy for the filmmaker, but he convinced Manorama's father. It was then Erin Issac became Manorama.

Manorama started as a child artist in 'Khazanchi' (1941) and became a very successful actress in Lahore. After the partition, she shifted to Mumbai.
