The JD(S) leader's mother-in-law,
Vimala, is said to have had the power of attorney of the land and sold it to
her son, TS Channappa. The three parcels of land — survey No. 7/1B, 7/1C and
7/1D — measuring 17 guntas each were owned by Thimma Reddy, T Nagappa and
Muniswamappa and acquired by BDA in 1976 to form the Matadahalli layout. The
BDA even took possession of the land. However, an application for
denotification of the land was made in 2007.

After the JD(S) leader quit,
Yeddyurppa, who became the chief minister, denotified the land in 2010.
Curiously, the BJP and JD(S) leaders were at daggers drawn in the public all
through this denotification saga. The FIR comes even as the beleaguered
Congress government is desperately fending off pleas for probe into
denotification of land by it in the Arkavathi Layout.
