Rising star Sumit Nagal, surprised all his fans with his victory in the first round at the ongoing US Open. Sumit beat Bradley Klahn of the United States, 6-1, 6-3,3-6,6-1. The 23-year-old shared the good news with his fans on Instagram. He wrote, "My first Slam win. It was definitely a special moment and a match I will not forget. Thank you everyone for the wishes❤️Next match on Thursday, gonna be a fun one 🙃Special thanks to my team." Before Sumit, the last Indian to do so was Somdev Devvarman in 2013. Earlier, Sumit Nagal took Roger Federer by surprise during the first round of the 2019 US Open. Sumit was defeated by the Swiss player but he shocked all the viewers with his impressive performance. The match that went on for more than two hours saw Nagal beat Federer in the first set 6-1, but the young Indian lost the second, third and fourth set 1-6 2-6 4-6. Sumit has also won several matches at the junior level. Despite holding the 190th rank, Sumit is only the sixth Indian player to win a junior Grand Slam title.
