Saturn, the ringed planet of our solar system
Whenever you think of Saturn, the sixth planet from the Sun, its distinctive rings, variety of moons and swift atmospheric winds are the first things to come into your mind.
Whether you are a planetary scientist or a skygazer, Saturn is a fascinating world. The second largest planet in our solar system, Saturn is the furthest from Earth that is visible to the naked eye. However, the planet's most outstanding features, its rings, are better viewed through a telescope.
Even though the other gas giants in the solar system, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune also have rings, Saturn's rings are particularly prominent, which is why, it earned the nickname the 'Ringed Planet.'
Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei was the first to observe Saturn with a telescope in 1610. However, he couldn't determine what the rings were.
