On the occasion of having completed two years in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked people to rate his government's initiatives on the government portal mygov.in. More than 20,000 people participated in the online survey. The online platform was launched by PM Modi in July 2014.

China told the United States on Tuesday that it should play a constructive role in safeguarding peace in the disputed South China Sea, as US Secretary of State John Kerry called for talks and a peaceful resolution. China has been angered by what it views as provocative US military patrols close to islands China controls in the South China Sea. The United States says the patrols are to protect freedom of navigation. State councillor Yang Jiechi, China's top diplomat said that China had the right to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.

China's crackdown on graft has created an atmosphere in which people are increasingly too afraid to be corrupt, the top official in one of the country's most graft-plagued provinces said on Tuesday. Parts of the coal-rich northern province of Shanxi used to be "disaster areas" because of the systemic corruption that nearly triggered collapse, provincial Communist Party boss Wang Rulin said in an interview published by China's main anti-graft agency. But things were getting better, Wang emphasised.

Almost 12 years after his elimination, the story of the killing of forest brigand Veerappan is being chronicled, none other than by the person who led the operation to hunt him down. Retired IPS officer K Vijay Kumar is currently writing the nearly 1,000 page book on Veerappan, who had ruled 6,000 sq km forest in three southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala for more than two decades, poached over 200 elephants, smuggled ivory worth crores and killed more than 180 people, mostly police and forest officials.
